Septa rubecula (Cymatium Rubeculum) shells
Septa rubecula, common name : the ruby triton or the red redbreast triton, is a species of predatory sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Cymatiidae.
The Septa rubecula are dwell in the Indian Ocean off Chagos, the Mascarene basin, Tanzania and in the Indo-West Pacific; also off New Caledonia. Septa Rubeculum's prefer coral reefs.
The spire whorls grow irregularly giving it a distorted look. Varices are thick and regular. There are spiral rows of coarse, sometimes fused beads on all whorls. The aperture is broad and the siphonal canal short. The shell size of Septa rubecula varies between 1 to 2 1/4 inches.
The Cymatium Rubeculum shell's color is bright red to orange, with an occasional pale spiral band and white varices. Exposure to sunlight produces some of the paler color forms of this species.
This species is found across the Indo-Pacific region; ranging from the Indian Ocean east across the Northern shores of Australia and New Zealand shore. Cymatium Rubeculum's prefer coral reefs.
Septa rubecula dwell Under coral rocks, on sand and coral substrates at depths of 1 1/2 to 476 feet.
